Online PharmD Program: Progressive U.S. University and Edtech Company Launches New Program on Cutting-Edge Platform

The University of Findlay and Keypath Education launched a distance Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program to meet the demand for licensed pharmacists nationwide.

FINDLAY, Ohio and CHICAGO, Illinois — The University of Findlay and Keypath Education have launched an online PharmD program designed to expand the reach and mission of the university and help meet the growing need for licensed pharmacists across the nation.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics report, marginal growth of jobs for pharmacists is projected through 2031. However, a significant increase in skilled pharmacists has been reported, with only 14,223 new PharmD graduates responding to over 80,000 job postings for pharmacists in 2021. As employer demand continues to exceed capacity, colleges and universities need to adopt innovative solutions to overcome constraints limiting growth.

The University of Findlay has a well-established track record of offering online degree programs, and its collaboration with Keypath Education, a global market-leading edtech company, is leading the way. The first cohort of students began coursework in September and student recruitment for Fall 2024 has commenced.

“We are excited to build upon this collaboration as we launch a distance education pathway to a PharmD. As the first online PharmD program to be offered in the state of Ohio, and with fewer than ten online programs in the country, we believe this pathway will uniquely position our program to be ready to educate the next generation of pharmacists who are seeking a more flexible learning environment,” said Ryan A. Schneider, Pharm.D., Ph.D. Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Dean for Operations and Effectiveness, and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Findlay.

A technology-enabled company in the online program management market, Keypath Education works with institutions of higher learning across the globe to facilitate career-relevant online higher education programs to prepare students for the job market. Keypath has more than 750 employees with operations in Australia, the United States, Canada, the UK, Malaysia and Singapore.

Through its integrated technology and data platform, KeypathEDGE, the company provides its university partners with a full suite of services, including designing, developing, launching, marketing, and managing online programs. Additionally, the company undertakes market research and provides student recruitment, support, and placement services.

“Universities across the globe are partnering with Keypath Education to design and deliver high-quality, career-relevant, and industry-aligned graduate degrees built for working learners and the future of work, even across traditionally on-campus degrees with clinical placements. Leveraging KeypathEDGE, our end-to-end data and technology platform, Keypath works with university faculty to reimagine in-person degrees into online courses with rural areas, underserved communities, and a global reach in mind,” said Ashley McGuire, Senior Manager of Global Communications and Brand, Keypath Education.

In the online PharmD program, the University of Finlay’s faculty of pharmacy designs and teaches the four-year program curriculum. To ensure an enhanced online student learning experience, Keypath provides program management support such as program marketing, recruitment, instructional and course design, clinical/experiential placements, and faculty recruitment services.

“Coursework will be offered online with concentrated campus immersions and hands-on experiential practical experiences in the students’ home community sourced by Keypath Education’s placement network. The University of Findlay will also continue to offer a campus-based PharmD program for students who prefer a face-to-face program,” said McGuire.

The online PharmD program has been made accessible to students across the U.S. through the collaboration between the University of Findlay and Keypath Education, ensuring highly qualified candidates have the best chance of finding a meaningful career in pharmacy. Additionally, students can enhance their marketability by earning a second degree to complement their online PharmD—a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Health Informatics.
