February 14, 2025 – Accessibly, a leading accessibility widget that provides increased ADA and WCAG compliance to websites, is pleased to announce the launch of a new accessibility app for Shopify websites that aims to simplify the process of compliance. Failing to comply with the requirements can result in hefty fines as well as lawsuits that may result in compensatory damages for large and small businesses.
The Importance of Web Accessibility and Compliance
Websites and digital content must be accessible and inclusive to all people, including those with disabilities, as per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Since the stakes are high for those that do not comply, companies are responding by conducting regular audits to identify and correct accessibility issues.
Some of the ways companies are making their websites more accessible are through adding alt text to images, ensuring sufficient color contrast, and providing subtitles and captions on videos. As new metrics are continually introduced, it can be difficult for companies to manually review their compliance. This can result in compliance issues even when companies are actively attempting to follow the rules, particularly when human errors are made.
Accessibly’s New Plan for Meeting Compliance
Accessibly’s plan provides automated accessibility fixes and comprehensive audit capabilities. While initially available for Shopify clients, plans are in the works to launch the service for additional platforms in the near future. This advancement allows websites to achieve higher compliance rates with minimal manual effort, effectively reducing liabilities associated with accessibility compliance failure.
The system automatically generates appropriate ARIA labels and roles while ensuring proper heading hierarchy. It also provides missing form labels and descriptions, implements keyboard navigation improvements, and resolves empty link and button labeling issues. In its testing phase, sites with automated fixes enabled typically show dramatically reduced or zero errors in accessibility evaluation tools, compared to the same sites without the feature activated, reducing the need for manual accessibility maintenance, minimizing human errors and saving time. Since websites must be compliant with ADA and WCAG, this new plan lowers the risk for accessibility-related legal issues while improving the user experience overall for every visitor.
“With our new Enterprise plan, we’re revolutionizing how businesses approach web accessibility. By combining intelligent automated fixes with comprehensive auditing, we’re making it possible for websites to maintain high levels of accessibility compliance with minimal manual intervention. This represents a significant step forward in making the web more accessible for everyone,” explained Kaspars Milbergs, founder of Accessibly.
Although the plan is currently only available for Shopify clients, other websites will soon have this option to assist with improving functions, compliance, and user experiences for all while minimizing the need for manual fixes.
Shopify businesses can try it for free and experience the simplification of compliance with automated fixes and audits through this advanced plan.
